How do I plan the cash flow and liquidity in the project calculation?

Update proposal

Proposed update for an existing live article: https://support.alasco.de/hc/de/articles/29180638445724-Wie-plane-ich-den-Liquidit%C3%A4tsbedarf-und-Mittelfluss-in-der-Projektkalkulation. Review and merge into the live article; do not publish this draft as a duplicate. Rationale: This is the canonical article for cash flow and liquidity planning in the project calculation (Appraisals). Adding the new view interval settings here provides the complete workflow in English.

Topic Overview

Create a milestone-based timeline

You can transform the static project calculation into a time-based cash flow plan by creating a milestone-based timeline.

  1. Open Plan in the sidebar and navigate to the Project calculation.
  2. Switch to the Cash flow view.
  3. Create your project milestones. If you shift a milestone, all subsequent milestones can adjust automatically (cascade effect).

Distribute costs and revenues across milestones

For each cost and revenue item, you can define how it is distributed over time.

  1. Select an item in your calculation and open the corresponding distribution settings.
  2. Determine whether the amount is distributed between two milestones (linear, as an S-curve, or as a bell curve) or occurs as a one-time amount at a specific milestone date.
  3. For complex scenarios, you can use stacked distributions (e.g. 20% linear and 80% as a bell curve).

Copy milestones and distributions

If you work with multiple versions, you can easily copy existing timelines.

  1. Open the settings of the desired calculation version.
  2. Select the function to copy from another version.
  3. Apply the milestones and their distributions to the current version.

Evaluate liquidity needs and IRR

Based on the configured milestones and distributions, Alasco automatically calculates the liquidity needs for your project.

  1. Switch to the Cash flow tab within the project calculation.
  2. Here you can see the monthly and cumulative liquidity needs for the entire project duration.
  3. In addition, the unlevered internal rate of return (Unlevered IRR) is displayed based on your planning.

Customize the view and export

You can individually customize the view intervals and time ranges of your cash flow plan and export them:

  1. Use the View in selector above the table to switch between a monthly, quarterly, or yearly view. Inflows and outflows are added up for the selected period, and balances show the amount at the end of each period.
  2. Choose a specific start and end date to filter the plan to a custom time range.
  3. Export the currently visible view and time range using the Excel export.

Note:

Cash distributions remain on a monthly basis. Switching views only aggregates the displayed numbers without modifying the underlying plan itself.
